I am fortunate enough to live on an amazing two acres of rainforest on the Atherton Tablelands in Queensland, Australia. I live here with my husband, Rod, who is very supportive and patient. Our acreage is wrapped on two sides by a spring fed creek with high waterfalls, rapids and huge fig trees.

This spot has been known as ‘Fairydell’ for as long as the locals can remember. It is a spot  that was used as a recreational reserve for the nurses who were stationed at the nearby Rocky Creek field hospital during World War II.

I love the rainforest and I draw a lot of my inspiration from this beautiful place.

Much of my work is done using a technique I like to call ‘confetti piecing’. I started developing this style in 1992. Each project I do in this way is made up of thousands of tiny ‘confetti’ sized pieces which allow you to ‘paint’ with fabric. This method allows you to interpret nature in a very realistic way. It can look like fur, feathers, scales, petals, leaves and a whole lot more…..even quiche! It is fun, it is fantastic, it is fascinating, it is fulfilling and I would love to introduce you to this technique. I have produced some DVD’s to step you through this wonderful journey…. Just me and you in the privacy of your own home, in your own sewing room – and you don’t even have to tidy up!

But if ‘confetti’ is not quite your ‘cup of tea’ yet please browse my site. I am offering many other projects that are a lot of fun. My 'Block Per Month' project depicts, in a very quirky way, the frogs of the rainforest and is offered in a choice of two different colour ways.

My stitcheries, featuring my model ‘Maybe’ all have a message…. a message we can all relate to - a dislike for housework and a love of sewing.

I have also designed some Christmas quilts and cot quilts so there is something for everyone.

Cheers

Ruth
