Puzzled (58" x 64")
This quilt has just been awarded 2nd prize in the Art / Naturescape categoryat the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas USA in October 2009.
For Ruth it was a dream come true and she was there to receive her prize cheque at presentation night. She was elated when they announced her name to receive 2nd prize.
The majority of the quilt has been made using Ruth's confetti piecing technique. The quilt depicts a scene from the Atherton Tablelands where Ruth lives.
The quilt was quilted in jigsaw shaped sections which adds to is appeal. After it was stitched once, then the 'missing' pieces were cut out and placed on to the puzzle board below the main confetti scene.
The quilt was then 'sandwiched' and quilted. The puzzle lines were stitched over again and the black borders were stipple quilted.
Ruth also went on to win 1st prize for a jacket she entered in the Wearable Art fashon parade. All of this means more incentive to keep "coming up with the goods" so there is a busy year in store for her!
